Javea in Spain

The Club Nautico de Jávea is a long standing club, known to organize a multitude of activities and competitions within the world of sailing, fishing and diving, aiming to be a meeting place for all those who have a common love for the sea. One of the club’s greatest attractions is its swimming pool, which has been renovated several times, most recently in 2005, modernising its overall look. The club has 340 moorings and is located in the Bay of Jávea. In the summer months of July and August it opens its sailing school for children and adults alike.

Brief History

The Clubs first headquarters and social building was established back in 1955 through an agreement made by the ‘Shipwrecked rescue society’ and the then president, Mr Jaime Cruañes Cholbi and the secretary Juan Crespo Ruaño. The weather-beaten, old building was renovated and used as a storeroom for nautical objects and to provide shelter from the cold to workers and labourers. The building would then go on to host meetings for the first Board of Directors of Jaime Cruañes and the few members of the young club. The Yacht Club continued to grow rapidly and in the 1970s its members numbered in the hundreds.

In 1977 the establishment of the Port Fish Market began which was rebuilt in 1995. The entrance to the club is decorated with an old wheel of a ship and a cannon. Interestingly enough this cannon used to serve a very important purpose! At the beginning of the 20th century, the cannon was used to fire heavy lead balls with ropes attached over ships that could not get close due to bad weather. The sailors would then use these lines to assist them in mooring the ships. (Find out more about the clubs history by the link at the bottom of the page)

Javea port area

Javea Port is well worth a visit. It boasts many shops, restaurants, (tapas) bars and the pretty La Grava peble beach alongside the promenade lined with lovely palmtrees in a relaxed atmosphere. The sculptures on the promenade are changed every year. Located at the north end of the promenade, Javea’s marina still functions as a fishing port with the fishing fleet arriving back in port at least once a day and yachts moored in the same vicinity. A market opens to sell the fresh produce caught by the fishermen. Walk past the harbour and ‘Club Náutico’ and you will come to the small beach named ‘Playa del Pope’ or ‘Playa del Tangó.
