Support the Catland shelter project

In the picturesque coastal town of Jávea, Spain, an inspiring initiative is making a profound difference in the lives of countless stray and abandoned cats. Catland Jávea is a compassionate, community-driven non-profit organization founded with a clear mission: to provide a safe, nurturing environment for the many felines in need throughout the region. Born from the growing concern over the rising number of homeless cats and the lack of dedicated care facilities in the area, Catland has become a beacon of hope not only for animals but also for the animal lovers and volunteers who support them.

At the heart of this initiative is founder Claire Wall, whose dedication and tireless efforts have transformed a vision into a reality. Working hand-in-hand with the local Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program run by Javea Feral Cats, Catland Jávea plays a vital role in both rescue and rehabilitation. The organization goes beyond just rescuing cats; it promotes education, responsible pet ownership, and community awareness to create lasting, meaningful change.

Mission and Activities

Catland Jávea’s primary mission is to offer shelter to approximately 80–100 cats at a time. Cats that are suitable for domestic life are prepared for adoption, while those that are not will remain in the shelter under a no-kill policy. The organization works closely with a registered veterinarian under a full zoological license to ensure the health and well-being of the cats.

In addition to sheltering cats, Catland continues to support the TNR program, aiming to control the feral cat population humanely. The organization has also established partnerships with international groups like the Little Tigers Foundation in the Netherlands to find loving homes for cats abroad.

Community Involvement and Education

Education is a cornerstone of Catland’s approach. The organization believes that informing the local community about animal welfare, the importance of sterilization, and proper cat care is essential to improving the lives of stray cats in Spain. Through workshops, events, and outreach programs, Catland strives to foster a more compassionate environment for animals.

Shelter Development

The shelter is being constructed in the Ramblars area, a tranquil location less than 10 minutes from Jávea’s town center. Thanks to community support and fundraising efforts, significant progress has been made, with €200,144 raised towards the €230,000 goal as of May 12, 2025. The facility will include essential amenities such as a veterinary clinic, quarantine zone, nursery, and hospital to provide comprehensive care for the cats.

How to Support

Catland Jávea relies on donations and volunteer support to continue its vital work. Individuals interested in contributing can do so by donating, volunteering, or attending fundraising events like the upcoming “Catland’s White Party” on May 24, 2025. Every contribution helps bring the shelter closer to completion and ensures a better future for Jávea’s street cats.
